Finally, one of the things I was mostly looking forward to seeing in Romania was Dracula's Castle known as Bran Castle.
We were driving and in the distance, there it was! Standing up and high on top of a mountain, over looking the all valley, looking all gorgeous and mystical, It was just magnificent! I could not believe I was there. Ever since I was a little girl, I would hear stories about Dracula. I remember a particular story book that my mom will read to my brother and I before bed. We were trying to find this book now, but had no luck.
Bram Stoker’s character, Dracula, is a Transylvanian Count with a castle located high above a valley perched on a rock with a flowing river below in the Principality of Transylvania.
This character is often confused with Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), sometimes known as Vlad Dracul, who was a Walachian Prince with a castle, now in ruins, located in the Principality of Wallachia. Because Bran Castle is the only castle in all of Transylvania that actually fits Bram Stoker’s description of Dracula’s Castle, it is known throughout the world as Dracula’s Castle.
Before we entered the castle, we went to a haunted house at the entrance to the castle, It was for the kids. I entered with them and I have to say, it freaked the Dracula out of me. It was a real deal haunted house. I wish I had pictures, but there were no photography allowed.
A little interesting and fun fact for your knowledge, Go to hell in Romanian means go to Dracula (du-te la dracu).
